TIPS TEACHER PRODUCTS
In the "Course Descriptions for the TIPS course" one of the requirements was a semester product (see below).
Semester Teacher Product: Plan, develop and conduct an extended lesson related to your mandated state curriculum that illustrates the knowledge and skills acquired during this course. The lesson should address specific learning standards from at least two subject areas (e.g., social studies, language arts, science) and the standards should be identified. The lesson may be in the format of a Webquest, PowerPoint presentation, or web pages. The lesson must use the Public Policy Analyst, but should build upon it through additional links, resources and/or technologies. Generally, this is an individual task unless participants have been team teaching throughout the semester. Initial products should be completed by April 3; participants will present them at an April session. Based on the feedback from the instructor and colleagues, participants will make revisions. Final products will be posted on the TIPS website.
These semester products were to have been completed by April 3rd and presented at a workshop later that month. After receiving feedback from several teachers, we have decided to push the deadline back a month and have you give a short (5 to 10 minute) presentation at a workshop in May. This will give you additional time to devote to this project. Assistance is available from us in the form of the presentations given by Bill, Ira, Howard or Ann access to online tutorials on specific applications, and from feedback that we will be happy to provide.
You should work individually on these products because we want you to be able to develop and use the skills you acquire from us over the next few years. But (in those rare instances) if you have been working with another teacher throughout this process you can request an exception to this requirement.
At the May presentation workshop, your peers will supply positive feedback of your product. You will all be invited to attend a year-end "celebration" of the TIPS project. At this meeting the top products will be presented by their teacher/creator. We understand that each teacher has varying technology skills, but we expect each teacher to be able to create a usable product for his or her classes. All the teacher semester products will be posted on the TIPS website so that you can use your fellow teacher's lessons or get ideas on how to create future products.
