- After World War II and the Holocaust, the U.N., in 1948, created the state of Israel as a
homeland for Jewish people.
- The Arabs in the middle east refused to accept the U.N.’s proposal and
refused to recognize Israel’s right to exist.
- Fighting between Israel and her Arab neighbors began on Israel’s first
day of independence and has continued since.
- In the Six-Day war of 1967, the five surrounding nations attacked
Israel. In the six days Israel captured Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, Syria’s
Golan Heights, Jordan’s West bank.
