ECONOMIC POLICIES

You will be participating in an activity that will enable you to become a government official that will be effectively changing PUBLIC POLICY in economics. You and a group of your fellow students will be creating new economic policies for ONE of the following areas:

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

POVERTY

MINIMUM WAGE

SOCIAL SECURITY

TAX REFORM

UNEMPLOYMENT

WELFARE

 

THE TASK

1. In order to create a new policy for the issue that you are researching, you and your will be performing 6 tasks:

    1. Defining a Problem
    2. Gathering evidence
    3. Identify Causes
    4. Evaluate a Present Policy
    5. Develop Solutions
    6. Select Best Solution

You will use the worksheets above to accomplish your tasks to make it easier to complete your work.

 

2. In addition to the above worksheets you are required to complete the following sheets.

    1. To sign a contract this will ensure that all members understand their assignment to me the teacher and the other students in their group.
    2. History Worksheet- This will allow you to come to better understand the issue you are researching through questions that you must ask. To understand the meaning of the issue and why we must research it.

 

THE PROCESS

1. You will be in a group to perform the tasks for the project. Each person will have a role to play in the group. The 4 roles are:

    1. GROUP LEADER- you are to keep track of how your group will complete the project. You are responsible to meet the dead line and criteria for the project.
    2. GROUP RESEARCHER- you are responsible for contributing to most of the research for the project. You are also responsible for the organization and handling of all research for the project.
    3. GROUP EDITOR- you are responsible of the organization of all worksheets for the project. You are to make sure that all worksheets are written out correctly and completely. You create the final product of the project that will be graded and handed in.
    4. GROUP DESIGNER- you are responsible for the creation of the presentation of you issue for your group. You are to create a PowerPoint presentation or an oral one to discuss the work your group has done.

2. Though there are specific people assigned to different tasks to complete the project, EVERYONE is required to help their fellow group member out.

 

EVALUATION

 


 

The project will consist of the completed worksheets as well as the presentation of the information. Each of the students will receive an individual grade for their roles in the group as well as a group grade for the finished project.
