Lack of parent participation at P.S.197M

 

List at least three public policy alternatives. Be sure that all of your public policy alternatives are at the same political level as your social problem. Each alternative must specify the actual government or government agency that will carry out the proposed action.

1)PS197 Student/Family Handbook is almost finished.  New school Vision and Mission Statement is to be included for Sept. ’05 distribution Final draft is ready to be reviewed this month(Feb.) by P&C Committee and Principal for sign-off.  Handbook is in booklet format with Table of Contents, & information pertinent to students and families at PS197.Downtown School in Minneapolis/St. Paul was original model that was modified for PS197M needs. Handbook has 27 pages(14 double-sided pages)Family friendly. To be distributed to all the families by the school.  Hallmark employee assisted with layout and formatting.

2)Jan. 12,19th & 26th—also worked on surveys to get at the root of lack of parent participation—Jan. 12th—discussed & evaluated student survey & conduct report—

Jan. 19th—Continued with Building a  Community of Character Pledge—add place for parent & student signatures. Also make a blow-up of the Comm. Of Character Pledge w/out Signature to be posted on 1st & 2nd floor of school—discussed anti-bullying (good character solutions w/pizza  party, prizes, etc. for students who are problem-solvers for peace

Use pp.52 &53 in National Schools of Character  as a Guideline/Character Pledge to be combined with the Character Report Card

 

3)Need for out of classroom staff to have a   separate checklist/survey to look for student behavior (Jan.26th)  Began to look at specifics of said survey Job in Feb. will be to align surveys, revise, print & distribute – information from surveys to target parental involvement/participation in the school
