Worksheet1: Defining the Social Problem

1.      In one or two sentences, state the nature of the social problem that your group plans to study.

Students at CS133 are not achieving academically a level comparable to other city schools.

 

 

2.      List at least three undesirable social conditions that result from this problem:

a) Large discrepancy in ages of students leading to inappropriate social behavior.

b) Disruptive students acting out due to frustration with classwork.

c) Low self-esteem leading to bullying and other social problems.

 

3.      Write a short phrase that summarizes the social problem and its location (examples: students reading below grade level at P.S. 299; vandalism at Jones Middle School; cheating in Mr. Green’s math class)

Low test scores and low academic performance at CS133 (schoolwide).
