Math teachers notice students lack basic math skills- example: multiplication tables, addition facts. Librarian noticed misuse of math vocabulary. Students writing skills show a lack of grammar, spelling, punctuation or errors in students inability to recognize need for proper capitalization, paragraph writing, organization, topic sentences. While using Great Leaps (A phonics based literacy tool) teachers and paraprofessionals noticed that students do not have fundamental reading skills, such as : phonic skills to sustain decoding. An inability to focus and listen in order to achieve comprehension was noted as a difficulty across all subjects. Students can not currently succeed in the mandated curriculum. |
