Your problem (phrase):

How to Stop student Chat during the Mini-Lesson

State one of the major existing policies that attempts to deal with the social problem:

Warning, Call Home, Detention

What are the advantages of this policy (consider effectiveness, costs, enforcement, public acceptance):

Student is advised that s/he has done something unacceptable.  Parents are advised and student sees that actions have consequences.  There is no cost.  It has limited effectiveness.  It is publicly accepted.

What are the disadvantages of this policy (consider the effectiveness, costs, enforcement, public acceptance):

It has limited effectiveness even when combined with the Wall of Success, a program to encourage students to “Do the Right Thing”.

Based on your evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages, should the current policy be totally replaced, strengthened, or improved? What advantages, if any, from the current policy should be retained? What disadvantages, if any, should be eliminated?

The program should be strengthened.  There needs to be another aspect to the program.
